Rawalpindi's biggest hospital is no longer admitting new patients

Rawalpindi’s largest tertiary healthcare institution, Holy Family Hospital (HFH), is embarking on a comprehensive overhaul, leading to a temporary halt in the admission of new patients. This decision is attributed to the ongoing construction activities within the hospital.

In response to the construction and renovation work at HFH, various departments and sections have been temporarily relocated to ensure the continuity of healthcare services. The beneficiaries of this reshuffle include Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH), District Headquarters Hospital Rawalpindi, Institute of Urology and Transplantation (RIUT), and Red Crescent Hospital.

Patients seeking medical attention are urged to visit these alternative healthcare facilities for the time being. Principal Rawalpindi Medical College and in-charge of Allied Hospitals, Professor Dr. Jahangir Sarwar Khan, provided insights into the rearrangement. He disclosed that two units of the Medicine Department, previously housed at HFH, are now operational at RIUT.

Moreover, a unit each from the Gynaecology and Obstetrics Department and the Surgery Department of HFH has been successfully relocated to BBH. This ensures that patients seeking treatment in these areas can continue to receive care without disruptions.

In addition to these changes, the Paediatrics Department has also been moved to BBH. Parents are encouraged to bring their children to either BBH or DHQ hospital for pediatric healthcare needs.

Furthermore, HFH’s Department of Infectious Diseases had been previously transferred to the Red Crescent Hospital, situated near College Chowk on Saidpur Road. This strategic relocation ensures that patients with infectious diseases continue to receive specialized care.

During this transition period, the administration of Holy Family Hospital remains committed to providing medicines and disposables to its patients who have been redirected to other healthcare facilities.

The reconstruction and renovation of HFH’s building, undertaken by the Communication and Works Department, is a significant endeavor, costing a substantial Rs. 2 billion. The completion of these construction activities is anticipated in February of the coming year, and the hospital will then resume its critical role in providing healthcare services to the community.
