Pakistani cricket star Shaheen Shah Afridi and his wife Ansha Afridi have welcomed their first child, a baby boy named Ali Yar, earlier today. Shaheen, who is currently playing in the two-Test series against Bangladesh, celebrated the birth of his son with a special cradle celebration during the ongoing Test in Rawalpindi.

The joyous moment, however, comes amid a challenging Test for the fast bowler, who has been struggling to make an impact, though he did manage to claim his first wicket by getting Hasan Mahmud caught behind to celebrate Ali Yar.

Shaheen married Ansha, the daughter of cricket legend Shahid Afridi, in a private nikah ceremony on February 3, 2023. The Afridi family is ecstatic about the new addition, with Shahid Afridi taking to social media to share his joy.

The cricket icon, who is now the youngest “nana” (maternal grandfather) in the cricketing world, tweeted in Urdu:

“دنیاِ کرکٹ کے کم عمر ترین نانا بننے پر آپ تمام احباب کے محبتوں بھرے پیغامات موصول ہو رہے ہیں 😀۔ ہماری خوشیوں میں شامل ہونے پر میں اور میری فیملی آپ سب لوگوں کا دل سے شکریہ ادا کرتے ہیں.” (“I am receiving loving messages from all of you on becoming the youngest grandfather in the cricket world. My family and I sincerely thank you for being part of our happiness.”)

Following the conclusion of the first Test, Shaheen will travel to Karachi to be with his wife and newborn son. He is expected to rejoin the team before the second Test begins in Rawalpindi on August 30. The couple’s new journey as parents adds a special dimension to Shaheen’s cricketing career, as he balances his role on the field with his new responsibilities at home.
