The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has recently declared its intention to appoint master’s degree holders as College Teacher Interns (CTIs) rather than regular lecturers, according to a report published on Wednesday.

The proposal calling for the decision is already being considered for approval while the recruitment process is expected to commence next month.

CTIs will be hired for eight months and will get a monthly salary of 50,000. However, there are fears that the choice not to use regular lecturers from the Public Service Commission may hit hard on numerous unemployed graduates who were aspiring for permanent teaching jobs.

This would have adverse effects on job security, however, can be career development of young people venturing into academia in future.
