Punjab Unveils New Policy for Grade 8 Board Examinations

The Punjab School Education Department has introduced significant changes to the Grade 8 board examinations, set to take effect from the next academic year. The move aims to improve the quality of assessments and align them with the province’s education goals.

Mandatory for Government Schools, Optional for Private Institutions

Under the new plan, Grade 8 board exams will be mandatory only for government schools. Private schools, however, will have the option to participate. The examinations will be conducted under the supervision of the Punjab Education, Curriculum, Training and Assessment Authority (PECTAA), ensuring standardization and transparency.

Detailed Examination Plan to be Released Soon

Officials have confirmed that the complete framework will be shared within the next 20 days. This will include the list of subjects, marks distribution, and a secure mechanism for delivering question papers to examination centers. The exams are expected to take place in February or March 2026.

Incentives for Strong Academic Performance

In addition to restructuring the exam system, the Punjab government plans to introduce a performance-based incentive program. Schools that achieve strong results could receive official rewards, while those consistently underperforming may face administrative action. This approach is aimed at encouraging academic excellence and accountability across institutions.

A Step Towards Quality Education

Education experts view this as a step towards raising learning standards, particularly in public schools. With the involvement of PECTAA and a structured reward mechanism, the province hopes to ensure fair evaluation and improved student outcomes.
