The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency has officially declared gambling and casino applications illegal across the country. In a recent notification, authorities confirmed that 46 such applications have been deemed unlawful, and a comprehensive list has been released for enforcement.

The move comes amid growing concerns over the misuse of digital platforms for unregulated betting, illegal forex trading, and unauthorized data collection.

Unregulated Forex Trading and Data Collection

According to the notification, several of the banned applications were found to be involved in unregulated forex trading activities. These platforms not only encouraged citizens to invest in unauthorized financial schemes but also posed significant risks to economic stability.

In addition, many of the applications were discovered to be collecting sensitive user information, including mobile numbers and personal data, without consent. Authorities have raised alarm over the misuse of this data, which could potentially expose users to identity theft and financial fraud.

Role of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority

The notification further stated that the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has been directed to block all the identified applications. This action will be taken at the request of the Cyber Crime Agency to ensure that access to these platforms is completely restricted.

Officials emphasized that the decision is aimed at safeguarding citizens from exploitation and protecting the digital ecosystem from illegal activities. The PTA’s involvement ensures that telecom operators and internet service providers across the country implement the ban effectively.

Strengthening Cyber Regulations

The crackdown highlights the government’s increasing efforts to strengthen cyber regulations and combat unlawful online activities. With digital platforms becoming more integrated into everyday life, authorities believe stricter measures are necessary to prevent misuse and protect citizens from financial and security risks.

This step signals a broader commitment to maintaining transparency, legality, and accountability in the digital space, while discouraging activities that undermine public trust in online platforms.
