Pakistan’s unbeaten boxing prodigy Usman Wazeer is set to defend his WBC OPBF Silver Welterweight Title on home soil in the last week of November 2025, marking one of the most anticipated boxing events in the country’s sporting history. The bout is not only a milestone in Wazeer’s rising career but also a defining moment for Pakistan’s growing presence in global boxing.

The 24-year-old champion captured the WBC OPBF Silver Belt earlier this year in Thailand after defeating Indonesia’s top-ranked fighter, Stevie Ferdinandus. Reflecting on that victory, Wazeer said the early rounds tested his stamina and strategy. “It was a 10-round fight, and the first three rounds were tough because of his experience—over 50 fights. But I trusted my plan. From the fourth round onwards, I dominated and ended the bout with a knockout in the tenth,” he recalled.

The victory, broadcast live on DAZN to 168 countries, cemented Wazeer’s international standing and showcased his skill to a global audience. Now preparing for his 18th professional fight, the Gilgit-born athlete remains undefeated with 17 wins and no losses. “I’m confident about defending my title. I want to make history on Pakistani soil and raise our flag with pride,” he said.

Wazeer credited much of his progress to the ACTIVIT Sports and Health Initiative, led by Dr. Rizwan Aftab Ahmed, Director of National Hospital DHA Lahore. “ACTIVIT has sponsored my last four international fights, all of which I won. Their support—financially, medically, and emotionally—has been a huge motivator,” he said.

Born in Astore, Gilgit-Baltistan, Wazeer’s story is a tale of perseverance. Starting with limited resources, he first pursued football before discovering boxing in 2015. Within a year, he became Islamabad’s amateur champion and soon clinched gold at the HEC All-Pakistan Championship in 2017. His standout performance at the 2018 Punjab Games caught the attention of Amir Khan, who invited him to train at the Amir Khan Boxing Academy in Islamabad.

Wazeer turned professional in 2019 in Dubai and rapidly rose through the ranks. By 2021, he had claimed the WBC Middle East title, followed by the WBO World Youth and WBA Asia Welterweight Championships in 2022—achievements that made him Pakistan’s most decorated boxer in modern history.

As the November title defense draws near, Wazeer sees this fight as a chance to give back to his country. “This isn’t just my fight—it’s Pakistan’s fight,” he said. “I want to prove that Pakistani athletes can compete with the world’s best. With my team’s support, I’ll correct my weaknesses and aim to make history again.”
