Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb praised the launch of Pakistan’s first Google Chromebook assembly line, calling it a significant step toward establishing the country as a global export hub for technology products. Speaking at the Future Summit in Karachi, Aurangzeb highlighted Pakistan’s potential in digital transformation and maritime sectors, emphasizing Google’s strategic interest in leveraging local manufacturing capabilities.

Aurangzeb stressed the importance of equipping Pakistani youth with advanced technical skills to capitalize on emerging opportunities in coding, blockchain, and artificial intelligence (AI). He noted that private sector involvement is crucial for economic progress, with IT and maritime industries being key drivers of an export-oriented economy.
Chromebook Assembly Line Signals Digital Transformation Push
The Google Chromebook assembly facility, inaugurated by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, was described as a “defining moment” in Pakistan’s digital evolution. Aurangzeb revealed that Google’s long-term plan includes making Pakistan a manufacturing and export base, aligning with the government’s vision for AI-driven economic growth and expansion of the blue economy.
Economic Reforms and Privatization Drive Underway
teThe finance minister highlighted improving macroeconomic indicators, citing 9% growth in corporate profits and recognition from international rating agencies. He noted that 900,000 new taxpayers were added through digitization efforts, enhancing revenue collection. Aurangzeb also confirmed plans to privatize 24 state-owned enterprises, including Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), with the process expected to conclude by year-end.
