Initiative to Revive the City’s Historic Identity
Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Sohail Afridi has announced a large-scale beautification project to restore the historic charm of Peshawar, the provincial capital known for its rich cultural heritage. The initiative focuses on revitalizing urban infrastructure and enhancing the overall look and feel of the city. Authorities aim to transform Peshawar into an attractive and modern metropolitan area while preserving its historical significance.
Under this project, roads across the city will undergo complete rehabilitation to ensure smoother travel for the public. Streetlights will be installed and upgraded in major commercial and residential zones, providing improved visibility and security at night. The plan also includes developing lush green spaces and gardens, promoting environmental sustainability. Additionally, sculptures will be erected at important locations to highlight the cultural identity of Peshawar and celebrate its deep-rooted traditions.
Focus on Public Convenience and Urban Improvements
While addressing attendees at the inauguration ceremony, Chief Minister Afridi stated that the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remains committed to maximizing public welfare. He emphasized that people have once again voted for Imran Khan’s vision, and that commitment will reflect in every policy decision taken by the provincial leadership.
Afridi highlighted that improving traffic flow is a core component of the beautification program. The administration plans to introduce better traffic management systems to reduce congestion and provide citizens with a more efficient travel experience. The installation of digital signages and modernization of city infrastructure are expected to contribute to a more organized and aesthetically pleasing environment.
He assured that future legislation and government actions will be rooted in the best interests of the people, helping build a more convenient and progressive lifestyle for residents.
CM Raises Concerns Over Financial Issues
During his speech, CM Afridi expressed strong concerns regarding what he termed “financial discrimination” against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by the federal government. He criticized individuals questioning KP’s rightful one percent share under the National Finance Commission Award allocated for the war on terror. He pointed out that KP has endured the heaviest sacrifices in the fight against terrorism and deserves fair compensation.
Afridi claimed that crucial funds owed to the province have yet to be released. He stated that a staggering Rs. 2,200 billion in net hydel profit payments remains pending with the federal government. He also noted that funds promised to the merged districts of former FATA have not been delivered. Although the federal government pledged Rs. 100 billion annually following the administrative merger, a total of Rs. 550 billion still remains unpaid.
The chief minister added that while administrative integration of the merged districts has been completed, their financial integration continues to face obstacles. He urged the federal authorities to fulfill their responsibilities, ensuring financial stability and equal development opportunities for the region.
