PSL 12 Player Auction Date Confirmed for January 23, 2027

PSL 12 player auction date January 23 2027

The PSL 12 player auction will take place on January 23, 2027, as the Pakistan Cricket Board has formally announced the pre-season roadmap for the next edition of the Pakistan Super League.

The PCB has also opened the direct-signing window for all eight franchises, beginning the squad-building process ahead of PSL 12, which will run from March 18 to May 2, 2027.

When Is the PSL 12 Player Auction?

The confirmed date is:

January 23, 2027

The venue and exact starting time for the auction have not yet been announced.

Further details about the auction format, player categories, franchise purse and bidding rules are expected after the upcoming PSL cricketing workshop.

PSL 12 Direct Signings Open

Before the main player auction, all eight PSL franchises have been given a direct-signing window.

The window opened on:

October 23, 2026

and will close on:

November 23, 2026

Each franchise can directly sign one marquee player who did not feature in either PSL 10 or PSL 11.

This gives teams an opportunity to secure a high-profile player before entering the auction.

PSL 12 Will Feature Eight Teams

All eight franchises will return for PSL 12.

The eight-team format was introduced in PSL 11 and will continue for the 2027 season.

PSL 12 will feature a total of:

44 matches

including:

40 league matches

and

4 playoffs

across a 46-day tournament window.

PSL Expands to Five or Six Venues

One of the major changes for PSL 12 is the planned expansion to five or six venues.

The PCB says this will be the first time the league is staged across this many locations, allowing more cities to host Pakistan’s premier T20 competition.

The complete list of venues has not yet been confirmed.

What Happens at the PSL Cricketing Workshop?

A franchise workshop scheduled for the coming week is expected to finalize several important squad-building rules.

These include:

  • player-retention deadline;
  • pre-auction trade window;
  • auction regulations; and
  • PSL 12 playing conditions.

Those decisions will provide a clearer picture of how each franchise can build its squad before January’s auction.

PSL Continues With Auction System

PSL 12 will continue using a player auction system rather than the traditional draft model used during earlier editions.

The auction format was introduced for PSL 11, replacing the draft system for the first time in league history.

The January 23 auction will therefore be another major stage in determining squad composition for all eight teams.

National T20 to Feed Players Into PSL

The PCB has also linked Pakistan’s domestic T20 structure more directly with the PSL.

The National T20 Gold and National T20 Silver tournaments will serve as talent-identification competitions ahead of the PSL 12 auction.

Strong performers will have an opportunity to attract franchise interest and potentially move from domestic cricket into the PSL and eventually national-team consideration.
