Former Pakistani cricketer Abdul Razzaq has issued an apology to Indian actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan after making an inappropriate comment about her during a recent event.

Razzaq, while responding to a question about the team management’s impact on player development, used an analogy involving Rai that was widely condemned as tasteless and disrespectful.

In a statement shared on social media, Razzaq expressed regret for his words and clarified that he did not intend to offend Rai.

“At the press conference yesterday, there was a discussion on cricket, coaching and intention, but my tongue slipped and I took Aishwarya jee’s name, while I was to give another example,” Razzaq said.

“I am truly sorry for this mistake and I sincerely apologize to Aishwarya jee and her family. I did not intend to hurt anyone’s sentiments. I was supposed to give another example but took her name [by mistake],” he added.

Razzaq’s apology comes after he faced widespread backlash for his comment, with many criticizing him for dragging Rai’s name into a discussion unrelated to her.

“Such a disgrace from a former cricketer. Shows how much respect he has for women,” one user commented on social media.

“This is completely unacceptable and disrespectful. He should be ashamed of himself,” another user added.

Razzaq’s apology has been met with mixed reactions, with some accepting his explanation while others still believe his actions were inexcusable. Regardless, the incident serves as a reminder of the importance of being mindful of one’s words, especially when in the public eye.
