An accountability court in Rawalpindi has ordered 15-day judicial remand of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan and wife, Bushra Bibi, in the Toshakhana reference case. The case was filed by the national accountability bureau against the PTI chief. The couple, previously placed on a seven-day remand, was presented before the court by a team from the NAB as that remand expired today.

The hearing was conducted at Adiala Jail, presided by Accountability Court Judge Nasir Javed Rana. The court issued directives for the next appearance of both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi on September 2.

The couple’s recent arrest on July 13 was made shortly after their acquittal in the Iddat case, where they were sentenced to seven years of imprisonment earlier this year and fined Rs500,000 each. According to the indications, the fresh Toshakhana reference covers allegations pertaining to improperly benefiting from state gifts, which has been one of the core issues with respect to the subject under investigation by the NAB.
