X, which is formerly known as Twitter and owned by Elon Musk, suspended a Hebrew X account belonging to Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei. The suspension of the account has sparked a conversation about content moderation on the platform, especially when it comes to political figures.
The account was made for Khamenei’s messages in Hebrew, which is one of his favourite mediums to express himself with tough attacks on Israel. The first post read, “In the name of Allah, the most merciful,” and was posted on his official English account which has more than one million followers. His second post read, “The Zionist regime made a mistake and erred in its calculation regarding Iran. We will make it understand what power, ability, initiative, and desire the Iranian nation has.”
As hostilities between Iran and Israel grow hotter, Teheran cut off diplomatic cooperation in protest. Hours after October 26 Israeli air actions, Khamenei declared that neither their devastating effects nor minimal losses ought to be overstated, and underplayed while declaring that Israel was very anxious to make as many issues for its actions as it might and that it would like Iran to pay also to the strikes as serious damages.

In his first public comments since the Israeli attacks, Khamenei said, “It is up to the authorities to decide how to demonstrate the Iranian people’s power and resolve to the Zionist regime.” His remarks came against a rising military exchange; Israel had attacked several of Iran’s military sites last week after a barrage of nearly 200 ballistic missiles were fired toward its territory on Oct 1.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said these strikes did significantly degrade the air defence and missile-making capabilities in Iran. The strikes did inflict a heavy defeat, he said. International onlookers now question what future dynamics will see as tensions surge.
