The Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) has announced a new initiative to directly transfer funds to the bank accounts of eligible women. This move, led by BISP Chairperson Senator Rubina Khalid, is intended to streamline the process, ensuring quicker, more transparent, and dignified access to financial support.

This new step follows the directives of President Asif Ali Zardari and consultations with the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP). The aim is to make the distribution of stipends more effective while cutting out intermediaries, reducing potential corruption, and ensuring that funds reach the right recipients without any deductions.

Focus on Accessibility and New Initiatives

Addressing the media at the BISP office in Chilas, Rubina Khalid emphasized the program’s zero-tolerance policy toward any form of deduction or mistreatment of the beneficiaries. To further ensure support for beneficiaries, BISP has established a modern call center with a toll-free helpline (0800-26477) to allow people to report issues and seek help in resolving their concerns.

One of the significant challenges raised during the meeting was the difficulty faced by women in remote areas when registering for BISP. To address this, Senator Khalid shared that Mobile Registration Vans are being expanded to improve access. She has urged the federal government to provide more vans, ensuring that even women in far-flung areas can easily register for the program.

The Benazir Kafaalat, Taleemi Wazaif, and Nashonuma programs were also discussed during the briefing. Senator Khalid revealed plans for the Benazir Skill Training Program, designed to help deserving women and their families acquire vocational skills to better their lives and support Pakistan’s economic growth.

During her visit, the senator also met with several BISP beneficiaries, listened to their grievances, and instructed the staff to resolve their issues immediately. In a symbolic gesture, she participated in the Green Pakistan-Benazir Pakistan initiative by planting a sapling, reinforcing the program’s commitment to environmental sustainability alongside social welfare efforts.
