In a commendable gesture of international cooperation, China has extended a generous gift to Pakistan by providing 25 state-of-the-art meteorological detectors, valued at US$1 million, aimed at enhancing early detection of lightning. This invaluable donation is expected to play a pivotal role in preventing the loss of life and property resulting from lightning strikes, particularly in regions vulnerable to such natural disasters.
The Director General of the Meteorological Department, Mehr Sahibzad Khan, shared that these detectors have been strategically installed across the country. This collaborative effort between China and Pakistan underscores the significance of global partnerships in addressing and mitigating the impact of natural calamities.
Notably, the goodwill doesn’t end there, as China is also contributing a radar system with a substantial range of 14,000 km. This advanced technology is anticipated to identify potential natural disasters in a timely manner, preventing catastrophic consequences. The significance of such initiatives is highlighted by past incidents, such as the tragic lightning strike in Tharparkar, where numerous lives, including livestock, were lost.
