50-Kilometer Intervals Planned for EV Stations Across Districts
Sindh is gearing up for a sustainable transportation shift, with a Chinese company set to install electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across the province.
This development was announced by Sindh Information and Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon during a high-level visit to Chery Automobile Headquarters in Wuhu, China, alongside Sindh Energy Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah.
According to Memon, charging points will be installed every 50 kilometers, covering both urban and rural districts of Sindh. The initiative aims to strengthen EV adoption and reduce environmental pollution caused by traditional fuel-powered vehicles.
“We’re moving toward green, eco-friendly transportation solutions that also create job opportunities for locals,” Memon said.
EV Assembly Plant to Launch in Karachi
Memon also shared that an electric mini-truck assembly facility is under development in Karachi. The goal is to bring down the cost of EVs and make them accessible to the middle and lower-income population segments.
This marks a critical step forward in making Sindh a regional hub for EV manufacturing and distribution.
Solar Integration and Energy Relief
Energy Minister Nasir Shah confirmed further collaboration with Chinese investors in solar power projects. As part of Sindh’s energy relief initiative, solar energy systems are being distributed to low-income households to counteract rising electricity prices.
“Solarization will empower households and reduce their reliance on expensive grid electricity,” Shah noted.
Tariff Reductions for EV Charging
In a related development, NEPRA has approved a major reduction in the EV charging tariff. The rate has dropped from Rs 45.55 to Rs 23.57 per unit, making EV charging significantly more affordable.
Additionally, the Rs 24.44 capped margin on EV stations has been removed, encouraging more private investment in the sector.
