The apprehension was made at the International Arrival lounge during the evening shift, after the arrival of a flight from the USA via Dubai. The suspect, identified as Muhammad Arshad Khan, son of Abdul Rasheed Khan, was taken into custody after officials discovered that he was carrying a large number of mobile phones that were cleverly concealed in his luggage.
Upon suspicion, officials searched the suspect’s luggage and found 52 iPhones, including some of the latest models such as the iPhone 14 Pro Max, iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, and iPhone 14 Pro. The total value of these phones was estimated to be approximately Rs. 22,300,000, while the taxes owed on the phones were assessed at Rs. 6,614,412.
Following the discovery, an FIR was filed against the suspect, who was subsequently arrested. The incident has raised concerns over the smuggling of high-value electronic items into the country, which can result in significant losses for the national economy.
