The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has slated a hearing for Nawaz Sharif’s petition challenging alleged rigging in NA-15, Mansehra, on 20 February. Led by Nisar Durrani, a three-member bench will preside over the proceedings to address the plea filed by the PML-N supremo.
Representing Sharif, Jahangir Jadoon brings attention to earlier objections dismissed due to delayed appearance and highlights discrepancies in Form-47 issuance and the absence of vote recounting in NA-15.
Despite PTI-backed Shahzada Gustasup Khan securing victory with a significant margin, Sharif contests the outcome, citing non-issuance of Form-45 in 125 polling stations due to snowfall. ECP’s initial rejection of the application prompts Sharif’s counsel to request reconsideration and submit another application, underscoring concerns over electoral transparency.
As the legal battle unfolds, it reflects the political tensions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sharif’s unwavering commitment to democratic principles. The scrutiny intensifies as the ECP reviews allegations of electoral misconduct, highlighting the importance of due process in challenging election outcomes and maintaining public confidence in electoral institutions.
