Over the past year, Pakistan has witnessed a substantial surge in the average price of a dozen eggs, as reported in official documents obtained by ProPakistani. These documents reveal that the national average for a dozen eggs has skyrocketed to a historic high of Rs. 314.59, a significant increase from the previous year’s price of Rs. 240.80.
The situation took a turn for the worse in October, with egg prices per dozen rising by over Rs. 14. In major cities like Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, and Karachi, the cost has reached an alarming Rs. 322 per dozen, exacerbating the burden on household budgets.
Notably, Gujranwala stands out as the city with the highest egg prices, with residents paying an average of Rs. 322.16 per dozen. Karachi follows closely at Rs. 321.64, while Rawalpindi is not far behind at Rs. 321.34 per dozen. Even Quetta is grappling with elevated prices, with a dozen eggs costing an average of Rs. 321.7.
This sudden and substantial increase in egg prices has raised concerns about food security and affordability, leaving many families struggling to afford this vital source of protein. The need for measures to address the rising cost of this essential commodity is becoming increasingly pressing.
