The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has wrapped up the deadline for the submission of nomination papers for the upcoming 2024 general elections. The deadline, extended until Sunday based on appeals from political parties, saw key submissions from prominent figures.

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) submitted nomination papers for former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in NA-130, Lahore, while Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto submitted papers for NA-196 and NA-128 in Lahore. Former President Asif Ali Zardari’s nomination papers were also filed for NA-207, Nawabshah.

Scrutiny of the nomination papers is scheduled from Monday until the end of the month, with appeals against acceptance or rejection open until January 3. Decisions on appeals are anticipated by January 10. The updated list of candidates will be released on January 11, with a withdrawal deadline of January 12.

Furthermore, the allocation of electoral symbols is set for January 13, paving the way for the general elections scheduled for February 8. Foreign observers have until January 20 to submit applications for monitoring the elections, with the Election Commission printing over 200,000 accreditation cards for the purpose.
