Fakhar Zaman, the talented opening batsman from Pakistan, has been recognized as the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for his outstanding performances. Zaman’s achievement marks the first time a Pakistani player has received this prestigious award since Sidra Ameen in November 2022. The left-hander played a pivotal role in Pakistan’s triumph over New Zealand in the ODI series, contributing two crucial match-winning centuries.
Expressing his gratitude, Zaman said, “Being named ICC Player of the Month for April is a tremendous honor for me. This month has undoubtedly been one of the highlights of my career, and it was an incredible feeling to showcase my skills in front of my fellow countrymen in Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Karachi.” Zaman went on to mention his delight in scoring consecutive centuries in Rawalpindi but highlighted his favorite knock, an unbeaten 180 runs in the second match.
Looking ahead, Zaman expressed his aspirations, saying, “I aim to carry this momentum forward as we approach the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. My goal is to bring joy and pride to the passionate fans of Pakistan through my performances on the field.”
Zaman’s exceptional achievements extended beyond the Player of the Month award. He joined an exclusive group of only twelve batters, and the fourth Pakistani, including Saeed Anwar, Zaheer Abbas, and Babar Azam (who achieved it twice), to record three consecutive centuries in ODIs. Additionally, Zaman became the fastest Asian batter to reach 3,000 runs in ODI history, accomplishing the feat in just 67 innings, surpassing the previous record held by Babar Azam, who achieved it in 68 innings.
Among the other nominees in the men’s category were Prabath Jayasuriya from Sri Lanka and Mark Chapman from New Zealand, who displayed impressive performances of their own.
In the ICC Women’s Player of the Month category, Naruemol Chaiwai, the captain of Thailand’s team, emerged victorious. Chaiwai claimed the award for her outstanding contributions during a historic 3-0 series victory against Zimbabwe, wherein she scored two unbeaten half-centuries.
Expressing her joy, Chaiwai humbly remarked, “I am deeply humbled and proud of myself for delivering performances deserving of this accolade. The recent series was crucial for both the team and me as we sought to establish ourselves in the ODI arena. Most importantly, I am immensely grateful for the support and recognition I have received.”
Chaiwai expressed her gratitude to her family, friends, and followers worldwide for their unwavering support. She concluded by stating that this recognition serves as a motivation for both herself and the entire Thai cricket team to continue progressing in the world of cricket.
