Rebecca Cheptegei, the Ugandan marathon runner at last month’s Paris Olympics, reportedly remains in a critical condition suffering from severe burns. According to local reports on Monday, Cheptegei suffered over 75 per cent body burns following an incident in which her boyfriend, Daniel Ndiema Marangach, allegedly drenched her in petrol.

The incident has been reported by both Kenyan and Ugandan newspapers as a domestic dispute. Trans Nzoia County police commander Jeremiah Ole Kosiom confirmed the incident, saying Marangach was also burnt during the attack.
