What is considered an inactive account?
An inactive account is one that has not been used for at least two years. This includes logging in to Gmail, YouTube, Google Drive, Maps, Chrome, and other Google services.
What happens to my account’s data if my account is deleted?
Google will delete all of the data associated with your inactive account, including emails, photos, documents, and more.
How can I save my account from being deleted?
To save your account from being deleted, you simply need to log in to it at least once every two years. You can also set up two-factor authentication to make your account more secure.
What if I want to save my data but don’t want to keep my account?
You can download your data from your inactive account before it is deleted. To do this, go to the Google Takeout website and select the services you want to export data from.
Why is Google doing this?
Google says that inactive accounts are more likely to be compromised by hackers. By deleting inactive accounts, Google hopes to improve security and protect its users’ data.

- The new policy only applies to personal Google accounts, not accounts that are set up through work, school, or other organizations.
- Google will send notices to the email address and recovery email address associated with an inactive account before it is deleted.
