The federal government has issued a notification announcing the schedule of public and optional holidays for the year 2025. According to the notification issued by the Cabinet Division on Monday, the days of national importance and religious festivals of Muslims and minorities are as follows:

Public and Optional Holidays 2025 Complete List

The dates of the Muslim festival holidays would depend on the sighting of the moon, according to the notification. The Cabinet Division, however, has clarified that a separate notification would be issued closer to the dates to confirm them.

For optional holidays, government employees would be required to seek prior permission from the head of their organizations. Muslim employees will have a maximum of one optional holiday per year, and non-Muslim employees will have up to three. It has been clarified that giving these holidays should not compromise work or result in shortages of staff.

The optional holidays are denominational and can be approved at the discretion of the head of the organization, provided that office operations remain unaffected,” the notification stated. It further added that employees should not be denied optional leave if it holds religious significance to them.

This comes in the last stages of the year 2024 so that citizens are well informed to plan out their future schedules for the new year. The notice also reiterates holidays only provided that sufficient manpower would be available to allow the workflow to continue on a day-to-day basis.

The list of all public holidays for the calendar year 2025 has been attached to the notice with the same, which encompasses Eid-ul-Fitr, Eid-ul-Adha, Independence Day, Christmas, and other similar holidays.
