The government is planning significant revisions to the rules for issuing and renewing Pakistan’s passports, aiming to make the process more accessible and efficient for citizens. The Interior Ministry has submitted a summary to the federal cabinet, proposing changes that will allow individuals to obtain passports from any city across the country. Additionally, the new rules will allow the payment of passport fees for all categories at any branch of the National Bank of Pakistan, further simplifying the process.
Sources from the Interior Ministry have revealed that once the cabinet approves these changes, the process of obtaining a passport will become as straightforward and easy as applying for a national identity card. This move is likely to significantly reduce the challenges faced by citizens in acquiring travel documents.
In a related development, the Interior Ministry announced the opening of a new regional passport office in Islamabad. Mustafa Jamal Qazi, Director General of Passports, supported Islamabad residents to visit the new facility, located at the I&T Center in Sector G10-4, for their passport needs.
He stressed that the state-of-the-art building is equipped with modern facilities, including dedicated counters for women and senior citizens, and will run a digital processing system to get rid of long queues. Qazi also ensured that additional staff will be available to promptly address any problems, making the passport application process more smooth, efficient and user-friendly.
