Students from Islamabad have brought international recognition to Pakistan by winning a silver medal at the World Artificial Intelligence Championship for the Youth (WAICY) 2025. The prestigious global competition drew participation from more than 132,000 students representing 103 countries, making the achievement a significant milestone for young Pakistani innovators.
The winning team represented Roots IVY Gandhara H-8 Campus and was led by Farahaad Ehtesham, alongside Ibrahim Yasir and Musab Khan. All three students are currently enrolled in IGCSE-I, making their success particularly noteworthy given the advanced technical nature of the competition and the age group of participants involved.
The Islamabad-based team earned second prize in the LLM Prompt Engineering category under the theme of Technology as a Service. Their project, titled “Ivy Mentor – A Personalised Academic and Coding Assistant,” impressed judges with its practical approach to solving real-world educational challenges. The digital learning tool is designed to help students better understand academic subjects while also developing coding skills through personalized guidance.
According to details shared in a press release, the judging panel assessed projects on multiple criteria, including creativity, usability, and the effectiveness of the solution in addressing genuine learning needs. Ivy Mentor stood out for its ability to adapt to individual student requirements, offering tailored academic assistance rather than generic instructional content.
The scale of the competition further amplifies the significance of the achievement. Participants included students from leading universities, research institutions, and advanced secondary schools across the globe. Competing against such a diverse and experienced pool of talent, the Islamabad team’s silver medal reflects both strong conceptual thinking and technical execution.
The success did not stop with a single team. Roots IVY Gandhara H-8 Campus also celebrated another major accomplishment as nine of its teams advanced to the global finals of WAICY 2025. These finalists included teams from the elementary level, highlighting the institution’s broad emphasis on early exposure to artificial intelligence and technology-driven learning.
Educators and observers have described the achievement as a positive sign for Pakistan’s future in emerging technologies. With young students demonstrating the ability to compete at an international level, the result reinforces the importance of investing in digital education and innovation from an early age.
The performance of the Islamabad students serves as an encouraging example of how structured learning environments, combined with creativity and technical curiosity, can produce globally competitive outcomes. As artificial intelligence continues to shape industries worldwide, achievements like this underline the growing potential of Pakistan’s youth to contribute meaningfully to the global technology landscape.
