Karachi is poised to revolutionize its urban mobility with the introduction of double-decker and electric buses starting next week. The Sindh government’s ambitious initiative, announced by Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, represents the largest modernization of the city’s public transport network in decades. Alongside the new buses, officials confirmed plans to launch an electric vehicle (EV) taxi service by December 2025. The Transport and Mass Transit Department revealed that 500 additional buses will join the fleet during the current financial year, with the first batch arriving within seven days. Representatives from Karachi’s ongoing Yellow Line and Red Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) projects participated in the announcement, signaling coordinated development of the city’s mass transit infrastructure.
