Authorities in Karnataka have approved a progressive policy granting women one day of paid menstrual leave each month, marking a significant advancement in workplace rights. The policy, announced on Thursday, applies to both government and private sector employees, providing 12 additional paid leave days annually. Recent data from the Institute of What Works to Advance Gender Equality (IWWAGE) shows rural women’s employment grew from 28.2% to 43.5% between 2017-18 and 2023-24, while urban participation increased from 22% to 28.8%.
