In a significant step towards women’s empowerment, Lahore inaugurated its first set of female-only driving schools on October 14, 2024. This initiative, led by the Punjab government, aims to provide women with a safe and supportive environment to learn driving, addressing both social and logistical barriers that have historically limited female mobility.

The schools will employ female instructors and offer flexible schedules to accommodate women from various backgrounds. This effort is part of a broader campaign to promote gender equality in Pakistan, where women face numerous hurdles in accessing public and private transportation.

By creating dedicated driving schools, the government hopes to enable more women to become independent drivers, fostering their participation in the workforce and empowering them in daily life. There are also plans to expand the program to other cities, further advancing female mobility and participation in public life
