Hundreds of matric students were denied entry to the mathematics examination in Lahore on Monday after arriving late to their designated centers under the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Lahore.

According to reports, the gates of the Lawrence Road examination center were shut at 9 a.m., as per the official schedule, leaving many students stranded outside. The mathematics paper began on time, and latecomers were not permitted to enter the hall.

Parents and candidates expressed frustration over the strict enforcement of entry rules, citing heavy overnight rainfall as the main reason for the delay. The downpour caused significant traffic disruptions and waterlogging across various parts of Lahore, making it difficult for many students to reach their centers on time.

Several parents urged the authorities to consider granting an additional grace period of five minutes in situations affected by severe weather or unforeseen circumstances. They warned that preventing students from sitting in the exam could jeopardize an entire year’s effort and preparation.

However, officials from BISE Lahore clarified that examination rules are uniform and cannot be relaxed. The board reiterated that the reporting time for all candidates was 8 a.m., and students were informed well in advance that no entry would be allowed after 9 a.m. under any circumstances.

Board representatives maintained that strict adherence to examination regulations ensures fairness, transparency, and discipline in the academic evaluation process. They added that centers across the city followed the same schedule and that students are expected to plan their commute accordingly, taking into account possible delays.

The incident has sparked debate among parents, teachers, and educationists regarding flexibility in examination policies, particularly when external factors such as weather interfere with attendance. Despite criticism, the board has not yet announced any reconsideration or supplementary arrangements for the affected students.
