The Lahore High Court (LHC) has hinted at the closure of schools and private offices for at least a week due to the unsatisfactory Air Quality Index (AQI).
The court was dealing with several petitions filed about the ongoing environmental issues. Considering the situation, Justice Shahid Karim remarked that the AQI level in Lahore has increased to a dangerous level and it is high time we took preventive measures on an immediate basis to control the damage. Currently, Lahore is included in the list of one of the most polluted cities in the world due to its increased AQI levels.
Punjab Disaster Management Authority Director also informed the court that last week saw a considerable decrease in smog and they are hoping it will further decrease in the weeks to come.
Another report by the judicial water commission mentioned that 47 sugar mills have not yet installed water treatment plants and are contributing to air pollution in the province. Notices have been issued to all these mills.
