Peshawar Police have introduced mandatory registration for all bike riders as part of a new effort to address the growing number of street crimes involving motorcycles. The initiative includes the launch of a dedicated mobile application designed to enhance monitoring and strengthen public safety across the city.

According to CCPO Mian Saeed, the newly developed Safe Ride app allows riders to register their personal details digitally. Those who are unable to access the app can complete the registration manually at their nearest police station. Once the process is finalized, riders receive a QR code sticker that must be placed on their motorcycles. This code will enable officers to quickly verify a rider’s identity during routine checks.

Officials say the registration system is intended to deter criminal activity by integrating all verified motorcycles and their owners into a centralized police database. The move comes in response to several recent incidents of snatching and robbery carried out by individuals using motorbikes. Police have already arrested ten suspects linked to such crimes, prompting authorities to accelerate preventive measures.

The Safe Ride initiative aims not only to strengthen law enforcement capabilities but also to safeguard legitimate riders who depend on motorcycles for daily transport or earnings. By distinguishing registered riders from unregistered individuals, authorities hope to reduce misuse and improve overall accountability on city roads.

A parallel effort is underway in Mansehra, where police have launched a district-wide registration campaign for online ride-hailing bike riders. Acting on directives from DPO Muhammad Azhar Khan, officers are recording the full credentials of each rider at their respective police stations. Every registered rider will be assigned a unique registration number to enhance traceability.

Both districts have urged citizens, particularly those using ride-hailing services, to encourage riders to complete the mandatory registration. Authorities believe that collective cooperation between the public and law enforcement will play a crucial role in reducing crime and maintaining order.

With rising concerns about motorbike-related offenses, the new system marks a significant step toward modernizing policing methods and leveraging technology to support safer communities. The rollout of digital verification tools may also pave the way for similar initiatives in other regions.
