Mari Petroleum Company Limited (MPCL) has announced a major breakthrough in Pakistan’s energy exploration sector with a new oil and gas discovery in Sindh province. The announcement, made on Friday, marks another milestone in the company’s ongoing commitment to expanding the country’s hydrocarbon reserves.
According to official reports, the discovery took place at the Mari Ghazij CFB-1 exploration well, where drilling began on September 12, 2025. The operation successfully reached the Sill formation at a depth of 1,195 meters, resulting in a productive output that signals strong potential for future exploration.
During the testing phase, the well demonstrated encouraging results, producing 305 barrels of oil per day along with 3 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (MMSCFD). Testing was completed at a 48/64-inch choke size and 225 psi pressure, confirming the well’s robust performance and operational stability.
Mari Petroleum stated that this marks the second oil-producing well in the Mari Ghazij area. The company also holds 100% operatorship in the Mari Development and Production (D&P) Lease, reinforcing its leading role in Pakistan’s upstream energy landscape.
Company CEO Faheem Haider praised the exploration team’s achievement, describing it as a testament to MPCL’s strategic focus on technological innovation and geological expertise. He emphasized that Mari Petroleum will maintain its momentum by pursuing further exploration to uncover new hydrocarbon deposits across the region.
This new find follows recent positive developments in Sindh’s energy sector. Earlier, the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) announced another gas and condensate discovery at its Faakir-1 well in Khairpur district. OGDCL, which holds a 95% working interest in partnership with Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL), continues to bolster Pakistan’s domestic energy output through sustained exploration efforts.
The consecutive discoveries by leading national energy firms underline Pakistan’s growing potential in oil and gas exploration. These efforts not only contribute to the national energy grid but also reduce reliance on costly imports, supporting the government’s vision for energy self-sufficiency and sustainable economic growth.
