Meta to Enhance Transparency with Watermarking for AI-Generated Images

In a move to improve transparency, Meta Platforms will soon introduce invisible watermarking to its text-to-image AI model, Imagine. This feature aims to prevent misuse and ensure the authenticity of AI-generated images.

Meta’s decision comes after the successful rollout of AI-powered products like the Imagine chatbot and smart glasses in late September. Recognizing the growing importance of AI, Meta is leveraging large language models like the custom Llama 2 model to create innovative products that enhance user experience.

The invisible watermarking will be resilient to common image manipulations like cropping and screenshots, further solidifying its role in ensuring image authenticity. This move also aligns with Meta’s ongoing efforts to explore over 20 ways to integrate generative AI into its social media platforms like Instagram and WhatsApp.
