Joe Biden Urges End to Israel-Hamas Conflict with Ceasefire

President Joe Biden announced that US mediators are making progress towards a Gaza ceasefire deal. During a news conference following a NATO summit in Washington, Biden called for an end to the Israel-Hamas war, emphasizing, “There’s a lot of things in retrospect I wish I had been able to convince the Israelis to do, but the bottom line is we have a chance now. It’s time to end this war.”

While expressing overall support for Israel, Biden acknowledged concerns about Israeli actions and admitted regret over not persuading Israel to take certain measures. He stressed the urgency of ending the conflict, stating, “It’s time to end this war.” Despite the complex issues between Israel and Hamas, Biden noted, “There are still gaps to close. We’re making progress.”

Biden remains determined to finalize the ceasefire deal. A month ago, he proposed a plan for a temporary halt in Israel’s offensive in exchange for Hamas releasing hostages. Hamas responded with counterproposals, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu faced resistance from his hard-right allies. Recent talks in Qatar have shown positive developments.

Reiterating his support for Israel after the October 7 Hamas attack, Biden recalled meeting Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir as a young senator and expressed challenges with Netanyahu’s conservative war cabinet. He advocated for a two-state solution as the ultimate resolution, stating, “This war cabinet is one of the most conservative war cabinets in the history of Israel, and there’s no ultimate answer other than a two-state solution here.”

Biden stood firm on withholding 2,000-pound bombs to prevent civilian casualties in Gaza and pressed Israel for a post-war Gaza plan while engaging Arab states for security cooperation. He also expressed disappointment over the underuse of a $230 million aid pier built by the US military to facilitate aid delivery, which faced numerous issues, including weather problems. The US plans to end the use of the pier permanently.

Biden’s administration continues to support Israel while advocating for civilian protection in Gaza.

The merger was announced in a ceremony held in Karachi today. Bashir Ahmed Farooqui the chairman of Saylani Welfare International Trust graced the occasion as chief guest.

In his welcome address the founding partner and Managing Director Kaacib, Rashid Mehmood apprised the audience on background and objectives of Kaacib. He said that a large chunk of Pakistani population is young but unemployed due to lack of training and human development efforts. Kaacib aims to provide adequate trainings on blue collar works and soft skills to make our youth effective part of economy domestically and globally. He emphasized that by efficient use of technology Kaacib wants to revolutionize the provision and deliverance of blue collar works for the corporate and retail sectors.

CEO and founding partner Kaacib Syed Abu Faisal introduced the Kaacib’s founding team and announced the hundred percent acquisition of Hukum Janab. Speaking on the occasion he highlighted the importance of blue collar economy and its dividends to the society. He talked about the mission and vision behind SAf Facilities Management and Kaacib. He also distributed awards amongst the distinguished workers and supporters of Hukum Janab.

Founder and CEO Hukum Janab expressed his excitement on being part of Kaacib. He said after merger with Kaacib he and his team will work with new zeal and zest under the brand name of Kaacib and Kaacib will reach new heights in deliverance of blue collar works and welfare of blue collar workers.

Justice Aalia Neelum becomes first female to become Chief Justice of Lahore High Court

Justice Aalia Neelum took oath as Chief Justice of Lahore High Court Thursday, becoming the first female to assume the top slot. The oath-taking ceremony was held at the Governor’s House, and it was administered by Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan. It was attended by LHC judges: Justice Ali Baqar Najafi, Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh, Justice Syed Shahbaz Rizvi, and Justice Shams Mehmood Mirza. It was also attended by Punjab Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz, Law Minister, Azam Nazeer Tarar, and the Inspector-General of Punjab.

Her appointment was approved just a day before the ceremony by President Asif Ali Zardari after the approval from the Judicial Commission of Pakistan led by the Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa. The nomination of Justice Neelum was considered along with the elevation of acting CJ Shujaat Ali Khan and Justice Ali Baqar Najafi.

Justice Neelum was born on November 12, 1966, and did her LLB from the University of Punjab in 1995. She was enrolled as an advocate in 1996 and as an Advocate of the Supreme Court in 2008. She was elevated to the LHC in 2013 and confirmed as a permanent judge on March 16, 2015. She has so far written 203 excellent judgments and remained the first female administration judge of anti-terrorism courts in the province.

She had a leading role in the establishment of separate courts for gender-based violence cases and the formulation of standard working procedures with regard to the recording of evidence and statements during the trials in e-courts across Punjab.

The post of LHC CJ had fallen vacant after Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmad Khan was elevated to the Supreme Court on June 7. Justice Shujaat Ali Khan took additional charge as the CJ, in the wake of the vacancy caused. Justice Neelum stands third in the seniority list of LHC judges and had been under consideration for the slot of CJ during the JCP meeting held on June 7.

Her appointment came in the wake of other landmark events for women within the ranks of the judiciary of Pakistan, with the appointment of Justice Syeda Tahira Safdar as the first woman Chief Justice of the Balochistan High Court in 2018 and Justice Ayesha A. Malik as the first woman judge to the Supreme Court in 2021.

Shaheen Afridi said sorry to Mohammad Yousuf for misbehave, says report

In a recent development, Shaheen Afridi, Pakistan’s prominent fast bowler, had a heated argument with the team’s batting coach, Mohammad Yousuf, during Pakistan’s tour of England. This incident took place just before the World Cup, stirring considerable attention within the cricket community.

Reports from Lahore have indicated that the coaching staff and team management had raised concerns with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman regarding Shaheen Afridi’s attitude during the tour. The confrontation between Afridi and Yousuf occurred at the nets at Headingley, where Afridi was practicing his bowling.

The argument was sparked when Yousuf pointed out Afridi’s repeated no-balls during the session. Shaheen, visibly agitated, told Yousuf to let him continue his practice and to mind his own business. Yousuf, maintaining his stance, responded that as a coach, it was his job to address such issues.

The situation escalated quickly, with both individuals exchanging heated words. Senior manager Wahab Riaz had to intervene and reprimand Afridi for his conduct. Eventually, Shaheen Afridi acknowledged his mistake and apologized to Mohammad Yousuf. The issue was resolved on the spot and was considered a closed chapter by the team management.

Sources term Shaheen Afridi’s behavior towards coaches as ‘heat of the moment’

Multiple sources within the Pakistan cricket team management confirmed to Geo News that the incident was a “heat-of-the-moment” case. They emphasized that such minor heated arguments are common during long tours and do not usually necessitate strict action. As a result, the incident was not reported to the PCB.

Despite the resolution, reports suggest that Shaheen’s behavior towards coaches and management has been less than ideal during recent tours. However, sources close to the team have stated that they are unaware of any other significant incidents involving Afridi. They also reiterated that minor disagreements are a routine aspect of the sport, especially during extended tours. A source was quoted as saying:

“See, when you are on a tour for months, these minor heated arguments happen, these are routine matters, there was nothing big as far as I know which required any strict action against anyone,”
“This was nothing more than routine case of heat-of-the-moment, so the chapter was closed there and then,” said the source when asked why it wasn’t reported to the PCB.
