Pakistan and Libya have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral defence and military cooperation, following high-level talks between the defence leadership of both countries.

According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, held detailed discussions with Field Marshal Khalifa Belqasim Haftar, Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces, and Lieutenant General Saddam Khalifa Haftar, Deputy Commander-in-Chief, during his official visit to Libya.

Guard of Honour and Strategic Dialogue

Upon arrival, Field Marshal Asim Munir was accorded a guard of honour by a smartly turned-out contingent of the Libyan Armed Forces, reflecting the importance both sides place on the visit.

The meeting focused on matters of mutual interest, evolving regional security dynamics, and practical ways to enhance defence and military-to-military cooperation between Pakistan and Libya.

Focus on Training and Counter-Terrorism

Both defence chiefs underscored the significance of collaboration in training, capacity building, and counter-terrorism efforts, highlighting shared security challenges and the need for coordinated responses.

Field Marshal Asim Munir reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to expanding defence ties with Libya, emphasizing cooperation based on shared strategic interests and mutual respect.

Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar praised the professionalism and operational capability of the Pakistan Armed Forces and expressed Libya’s desire to further broaden defence cooperation in the coming period.
