Defence and Economic Cooperation Take Center Stage

President Asif Ali Zardari met with Qatar’s Amir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, in Doha to discuss deepening bilateral relations across defence, economy, and agriculture. The president proposed expanding defence production collaboration, which the Amir welcomed, directing Qatari authorities to begin immediate discussions with Pakistan. Additionally, both leaders explored opportunities in agriculture and food security to enhance mutual economic growth.

Qatar Praises Pakistan’s Diplomatic and Humanitarian Role

The Amir commended Pakistan’s strategic diplomacy, particularly its ability to maintain strong ties with China, the West, and Gulf nations. He also lauded the recent Pakistan-Saudi Arabia defence agreement, calling it a timely and positive development. President Zardari, in turn, appreciated Qatar’s global humanitarian efforts, including its role in Gaza ceasefire advocacy and hosting UN-led Doha Process meetings on Afghanistan.

Pakistani Community and Investment Opportunities Highlighted

Sheikh Tamim expressed pride in the Pakistani diaspora’s contributions to Qatar’s development and hoped for increased Pakistani participation in the country’s workforce. President Zardari encouraged Qatari investment in Pakistan, expressing confidence in stronger economic ties under his leadership. He also praised Qatari humanitarian organizations, including the Qatar Fund for Development and Education Above All Foundation, for their global impact.

Amir of Qatar Accepts Invitation to Visit Pakistan

President Zardari extended an official invitation to the Amir for a state visit to Pakistan, which was accepted with plans for an early 2025 trip. The meeting, attended by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Pakistan’s ambassador to Qatar, reaffirmed both nations’ commitment to regional stability and shared prosperity.
