Ahead of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit scheduled for October 15-16, 2024, Pakistan’s Foreign Office (FO) has advised diplomats to restrict their movements. This precautionary measure, aimed at ensuring the security of foreign dignitaries and delegates, comes as Islamabad prepares to host the event, which will bring leaders from major regional countries, including India, China, and Russia.

The FO issued instructions urging diplomats to limit their activities to the Diplomatic Enclave and Red Zone areas in Islamabad. These zones are under heightened security as part of broader measures to ensure the smooth execution of the summit. Pakistani authorities, including the Army, have been deployed under Article 245 to maintain law and order during this critical period.

Diplomatic missions were also advised to stay updated on traffic plans issued by the Islamabad Traffic Police to avoid congestion and potential security risks. A 24/7 control room has been set up for diplomats to reach out in case of emergencies or assistance(
