Pakistani cueists Asjad Iqbal and Awais Munir continued their impressive run at the IBSF Mongolia World Cup Men 2024, advancing to the quarter-finals of the tournament in Ulaanbaatar. Both players displayed exceptional skill and resilience in the Round of 16.
Iqbal made a remarkable comeback against Hong Kong’s Chang Yu Kiu, securing a 4-1 victory. After losing the first frame 08-89, Iqbal rallied to win the next four frames with scores of 74-62(62), 71-12, 57-46, and 71(68)-24. His composure and strategic play led him to a dominant finish.
Awais Munir also impressed with a hard-fought 4-2 win over another Hong Kong player, Chau Hon Man. Munir lost the first frame 44-81 but bounced back, taking the second frame 80-08. Despite dropping the third frame 17-65, Munir rallied to win the fourth frame 88-42, and closed the match with scores of 85(79)-05 and 66-34.
Both Pakistani players are set for the quarter-finals, which will take place tomorrow at 10 am local time. Iqbal will face China’s Gao Yang, while Munir will compete against Iran’s Ali Gharahgozlou.
Earlier, the duo dominated their group stages with undefeated records. On Sunday, Munir claimed a 3-1 victory over Iran’s Siyavosh Mozayani, while Iqbal triumphed over Qatar’s Ali Alobaidli. Both players finished at the top of their respective groups, advancing confidently to the pre-quarterfinals.
Asjad Iqbal and Awais Munir now aim to extend their strong performance and secure a place in the semi-finals.
