The National Assembly’s Privatisation Committee has been informed that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) made several out-of-turn appointments within Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) during its tenure. The disclosure came during an ongoing investigation into irregularities within the national carrier’s operations and staffing practices.

According to the committee, these appointments violated standard procedures and were allegedly made on political grounds, bypassing merit and due process. This has raised questions about the effectiveness of PIA’s recruitment policies and the role of political interference in state-owned enterprises.

Committee members emphasized the need for reforms in PIA to ensure transparency and accountability, as the airline continues to face financial difficulties. The PPP, however, has denied any wrongdoing, stating that all appointments were made in accordance with the law.
