PSL Expansion Plans: PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi Aims to Make PSL World’s Top Cricket League
Ambitious Vision Unveiled at Lord’s Roadshow
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has set an ambitious target to elevate the Pakistan Super League (PSL) to become the world’s premier cricket franchise. Speaking at the PSL Roadshow held at London’s iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground, Naqvi confidently stated that achieving this goal is “not a difficult task” with proper planning and execution.
Cricket Legends Back PSL’s Global Ascent
The event saw participation from Pakistani cricket greats Ramiz Raja and Wasim Akram, who endorsed Naqvi’s vision. The PCB chairman revealed plans to consult star players including Babar Azam, Haris Rauf, and Sahibzada Farhan to refine the league’s structure and appeal. This collaborative approach aims to combine administrative expertise with player insights for optimal results.
Expansion to Eight Franchises Planned
Naqvi announced significant structural changes coming in PSL’s 11th edition, including expansion to eight franchises. This move is expected to increase competitiveness and commercial value. The chairman candidly shared his personal regret about missing investment opportunities during PSL’s inaugural 2016 season, urging potential sponsors and team owners to “take the risk” in what he believes will become cricket’s most lucrative league.
Strategic Push for International Prominence
The London roadshow marks PCB’s strategic effort to position PSL as a global cricket brand. With plans for enhanced marketing, player recruitment, and broadcast quality, Naqvi’s administration aims to surpass established leagues like the IPL and BBL in prestige and commercial success. The chairman’s confident assertions have generated considerable buzz in international cricket circles.
