PTA Distributes Free Smartphones to Female SIM Owners Nationwide

In a significant move to promote digital inclusivity, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), in collaboration with local mobile phone manufacturers, has announced the distribution of 2,000 free smartphones to female SIM owners across Pakistan, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan.

This initiative aligns with PTA’s celebration of surpassing 200 million telecom subscribers nationwide—a milestone that marks a new era in Pakistan’s digital transformation. The distribution will be conducted through computerized balloting, ensuring transparency and fair access for eligible women.

A Milestone in Pakistan’s Digital Growth

The PTA revealed that Pakistan now boasts over 150 million broadband users and more than 2 million Fiber To The Home (FTTH) subscribers. This reflects rapid growth in the country’s digital infrastructure and highlights PTA’s ongoing commitment to inclusive connectivity.

In a press statement, the authority emphasized its dedication to digitally empowering underserved communities. The free smartphone distribution is a major step toward reducing the gender gap in mobile technology access.

Free Data and Minutes for All Mobile Users

To further commemorate the 200 million subscriber milestone, PTA has teamed up with cellular operators—Jazz, Telenor, Ufone, Zong, and SCO—to offer a one-day bonus of 2GB free data and 200 on-net minutes to all mobile users on June 20, 2025. Users can activate the offer by dialing *2200# from any mobile network.

Free Wi-Fi Access for University Students

The celebration extends to the education sector as well. PTA, in partnership with PTCL and private tech companies, will be providing six months of free Wi-Fi access at selected HEC-recognized universities, including several women’s universities. This initiative aims to enhance students’ digital learning experiences and support academic development through better connectivity.

Empowering the Future Through Digital Access

This wave of digital benefits underlines PTA’s vision of a more connected and inclusive Pakistan. From empowering women with access to smart devices to equipping students with essential internet access, PTA is setting a progressive standard for national telecom development.
