The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has rejected the nomination papers of Imran Khan for the NA-122 and NA-89 constituencies in the upcoming general elections. The founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) faced disqualification due to a prior conviction, as stated by the returning officer overseeing the scrutiny process. Imran Khan’s proposer and seconder were also challenged for not belonging to NA-122, violating legal requirements.

Mian Naseer from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) raised objections against Imran Khan’s eligibility for NA-122, citing his criminal record as a basis for disqualification. The scrutiny of nomination papers for the 2024 general elections in Pakistan is an ongoing process, set to continue until December 30. The deadline for filing appeals against decisions on nomination papers is January 3, with the ECP expected to make decisions on appeals by January 10.

The official list of candidates will be displayed on January 11, allowing candidates to withdraw their nominations until January 12. Electoral symbols will be allotted on January 13, a crucial step in the election process for voters to identify candidates. The polling date for the general elections is scheduled for February 8.
