Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has made history by embarking on a five-day official visit to Japan, becoming the first chief minister from Pakistan to undertake a state-level trip to the East Asian nation. The visit, which commenced on Friday, underscores the growing importance of diplomatic relations and international cooperation between Punjab and Japan.
Invitation from the Japanese Government
The official visit comes in response to an invitation extended by the Japanese government, highlighting Japan’s keen interest in strengthening bilateral ties with Pakistan’s most populous province. This invitation is seen as a significant diplomatic gesture and is expected to foster economic, cultural, and technological cooperation between the two regions.
Delegation Accompanying the Chief Minister
Maryam Nawaz is leading a high-level delegation that includes some of Punjab’s most prominent officials. Senior minister Marriyum Aurangzeb and provincial information minister Azma Bokhari are among the key figures accompanying the chief minister. The delegation also comprises Sohaib Bharath, Zeeshan Rafiq, Special Assistant Sania Ashiq, and several senior government officers. The team was given a formal send-off at Lahore Airport by top officials, reflecting the importance attached to this visit by the Punjab government.

During her five-day stay, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz will visit three major Japanese cities: Tokyo, Osaka, and Yokohama. The itinerary includes participation at the prestigious World Expo in Osaka, an event that attracts global leaders, innovators, and investors. This presents an invaluable opportunity for Punjab to showcase its potential, attract foreign investment, and learn from Japanese advancements in technology and urban development.
