The Punjab government has officially launched Pakistan’s first AI-powered EcoBot, a digital assistant designed to enhance environmental awareness and allow citizens to check real-time air quality levels across major cities. The groundbreaking initiative aims to bridge the gap between technology and public health by giving residents instant access to reliable air quality data.

Developed under the supervision of the Environment Protection Department (EPD), EcoBot uses advanced artificial intelligence algorithms to provide real-time Air Quality Index (AQI) updates for cities including Lahore, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, and Multan. It also helps users understand air pollution levels, offering practical suggestions on how to reduce personal exposure and contribute to cleaner surroundings.

According to EPD Secretary Sajid Bashir, the EcoBot represents a major step toward improving environmental management in Punjab. “EcoBot serves as a direct communication bridge between the citizens and the department,” he said. “It is designed to empower people with accurate environmental data while promoting awareness about air pollution and its health impacts.”

The AI-powered assistant not only delivers AQI readings but also provides personalized health advice based on current air quality conditions. For instance, users can receive alerts about high pollution days and suggestions such as staying indoors, using air purifiers, or wearing protective masks when necessary.

Officials said EcoBot goes beyond data sharing by promoting sustainable living practices. It encourages tree plantation, waste reduction, and eco-friendly transportation — aligning with Punjab’s broader “Clean and Green Pakistan” vision.

Sajid Bashir emphasized that leveraging artificial intelligence for public engagement reflects the government’s long-term strategy to address climate and pollution challenges through innovation. “Our goal is to make Punjab cleaner, greener, and smarter by using digital solutions to create environmental awareness and empower citizens,” he added.

The introduction of EcoBot is being hailed as a significant milestone in Pakistan’s environmental technology landscape. It is expected to encourage citizen participation in sustainability programs, enhance transparency in environmental reporting, and strengthen coordination between the government and the public.

By integrating digital communication tools with environmental data, Punjab’s EcoBot sets a precedent for other provinces to adopt AI-driven governance models focused on sustainability, transparency, and public well-being.
