Major Construction Milestones Achieved
The Shaheen Chowk Underpass project in Islamabad is advancing at a strong and consistent pace, as confirmed during a recent inspection by Capital Development Authority Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa. The infrastructure development is seen as a crucial component in improving traffic flow within the capital city. Project engineers updated the officials regarding current progress and highlighted significant milestones that have been successfully achieved so far.
According to the project team, 80 percent of the barrel wall construction has now been completed. Additionally, Ramp One wall development has reached 60 percent progress, showing that the project remains well on track. One of the major achievements includes the complete finishing of barrel girder work, a key element that adds structural stability to the underpass. Alongside this, continuous work is being carried out on earth filling, road construction, and Ramp Two wall installation to ensure smooth advancement.
Round-the-Clock Operations to Meet Deadlines
The construction crews have been working around the clock to ensure timely completion and to minimize inconvenience for the public. The project involves several technical phases that demand expertise, precision, and consistent monitoring. Authorities have emphasized the importance of maintaining speed without compromising quality or safety. With ongoing operations across multiple sections of the site, the project team is confident about reaching future targets as scheduled.
CDA Chairman Inspects Progress and Sets Quality Priorities
During his visit, Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of the construction. Accompanied by Member Engineering Syed Nafasat Raza and other CDA officers, he reviewed the site conditions and various structural components. While praising the ongoing progress, he directed the team to ensure strict compliance with high-quality construction standards.
The chairman further instructed engineers to prioritize aesthetic enhancements such as landscaping, digital signboards, and LED lighting. These additions are expected to elevate the visual appeal of the underpass, making it not just a functional structure but an attractive urban facility contributing to the city’s modern outlook.
Key Role in Reducing Traffic Congestion
Once completed, the Shaheen Chowk Underpass is expected to significantly ease traffic flow along one of Islamabad’s busiest routes. The infrastructure will contribute to signal-free movement for daily commuters, especially office workers and students who frequently face delays in the area. The project aims to improve overall road efficiency and reduce travel time across the network, supporting the long-term transportation goals of the city.
Chairman Randhawa instructed the Project Director and Resident Engineers to maintain continuous on-site supervision and ensure timely execution of all remaining tasks. Strict monitoring will help the project stay aligned with its deadline and performance benchmarks. The Shaheen Chowk Underpass is considered an important initiative toward enhancing the road infrastructure and maintaining Islamabad’s reputation as a well-planned capital.
