The Government of Pakistan has announced a revision in Machine Readable Passport (MRP) fees, effective March 7, 2024. The Directorate General of Immigration & Passports (DGI&P) emphasized that all passport applications submitted on or after this date will be subject to the updated fee structure.
In cases where the fee was deposited before March 7, 2024, at the old rates, and the passport application is made thereafter, the difference will be levied, and the application will only proceed upon realization of the enhanced fee.
Pakistani passport fees rise by 50%
The increased passport fees are as follows: for a 36-page MRP, the normal fee is set at 4500 PKR, with an urgent option priced at 7500 PKR for a 5-year validity period. For a 10-year validity period, the normal fee stands at 6700 PKR, with an urgent fee of 11200 PKR.
Additionally, for a 72-page MRP, the normal fee is 8200 PKR for a 5-year validity and 12400 PKR for a 10-year validity. Urgent processing incurs fees of 13500 PKR and 20200 PKR, respectively. Moreover, a 100-page MRP will cost 9000 PKR for a 5-year validity and 13500 PKR for a 10-year validity, with urgent processing priced at 18000 PKR and 27000 PKR, respectively.
Meanwhile, the issuance of new passports faced a temporary halt due to a ‘link-down’ problem impacting data entry processes, as cited by an official from the Passport Office. This issue originated from the Passport and Immigration headquarters, leading to the suspension of services. However, the authorities are working to resolve the technical glitch to resume passport issuance promptly.
