In a decisive move to protect commuters from fare exploitation during the Eid ul Azha holiday season, the Sindh government has cancelled all Eid holidays for officers and staff of the provincial transport department. This directive, issued by Sindh Senior Minister for Information, Transport, and Mass Transit, Sharjeel Inam Memon, aims to ensure that transport officials remain on duty throughout the festive period to monitor and regulate inter-city bus fares.

The decision comes in response to recurring complaints of overcharging by transporters during major holidays, when millions of people travel to their hometowns. Minister Memon emphasized that no one would be allowed to exploit the public’s needs during Eid and that strict legal action would be taken against any transporter found charging fares above the government-approved rates. He urged citizens not to pay more than the official fares and to report any violations to the authorities.

To facilitate prompt action against fare violations, the transport department has set up a direct complaint mechanism. Passengers can report instances of overcharging by contacting the Deputy Secretary of Transport at mobile number 0346-2522641. This measure is intended to ensure swift redressal of grievances and to hold transporters accountable for any misconduct.

The cancellation of holidays applies to all officers and staff of the Provincial Transport Authority Sindh, Regional Transport Authorities, and District Regional Transport Authorities. These officials will be deployed across the province to oversee fare compliance and to address public complaints effectively. The government has also coordinated with district administrations and law enforcement agencies to support the enforcement of fare regulations.

This initiative reflects the Sindh government’s commitment to safeguarding the rights of passengers and maintaining fairness in public transportation. By ensuring the presence of transport officials during the Eid holidays, the government aims to prevent fare hikes and to provide a reliable and affordable travel experience for all citizens.
