This initiative specifically targets families whose monthly electricity usage does not exceed 100 units, aiming to ease their financial burden and promote green energy consumption.
Application Process and Eligibility Criteria
The Sindh Energy Department is currently accepting applications from eligible residents who wish to benefit from the solar panel program. Households that fulfill the criteria based on their electricity consumption can submit applications to be considered for panel allocation. This ongoing process ensures that those most in need can participate in the program without bureaucratic obstacles. The transparent approach is designed to identify families who regularly struggle with energy costs and ensure they can transition to cleaner, more affordable electricity.
Scale of Distribution and Future Plans
According to official figures presented to the provincial assembly, the government has planned to provide solar panels to a total of 200,000 families. So far, 77,000 homes have already received their panels, showcasing the government’s commitment to rapid and efficient execution of the initiative. In the upcoming phase, an additional 123,000 families are set to benefit. If the number of applicants exceeds available panels, the selection will be made through a lottery system, ensuring fairness and equal opportunity for all eligible households.

Shah highlighted the program during a recent ceremony at the Sindh Energy Department, where solar home systems and advanced solar inverters equipped with lithium batteries were displayed.
The minister emphasized that solar home systems not only lower energy expenses for families but also contribute to the larger goal of energy independence for the province. By promoting solar technology, the government hopes to pave the way for a cleaner and more sustainable future.
Advancement in Public-Private Partnerships
The Sindh government’s solar panel initiative is part of a broader strategy to diversify the province’s energy portfolio through innovative partnerships. The province established its first power plant under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP), marking a significant milestone in local energy production. The electricity generated from this plant is delivered to relevant entities via the Sindh Transmission and Dispatch Company (STDC), ensuring competitive rates and reliable supply.
