As tensions escalate in the region, Turkey has taken decisive steps to ensure the safe evacuation of its citizens from Israel and Palestine. The country’s Transportation and Infrastructure Minister, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, made it clear that Turkey is fully prepared for this operation.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry is actively working on the evacuation of Turkish citizens from both Israel and Palestine. Uraloğlu, speaking to the media just before the AK Party group meeting in Ankara, shared the nation’s commitment to ensuring the safety of its citizens in this challenging situation.

“We are prepared to carry out all kinds of evacuation operations from the sea and air, if necessary,” the minister affirmed. Turkey is leaving no stone unturned in safeguarding its citizens, demonstrating its readiness to act swiftly and decisively.

Uraloğlu also addressed the decision made by Turkey’s national flag carrier, Turkish Airlines (THY), and Pegasus to suspend their flights to Israel. He underscored that these decisions were made independently by the airlines, driven by their concern for passenger safety in the volatile Middle Eastern region. The airlines are committed to resuming their operations only when conditions are deemed safe.

Furthermore, Minister Uraloğlu highlighted the current security situation in the Mediterranean Sea. He stated, “There is a (security) risk at ports at the moment,” and that, in such circumstances, Turkish-flagged ships have been advised to make informed decisions regarding their operations.

The intensifying tensions in the Middle East are exemplified by Israel’s forceful military campaign against the Gaza Strip, a response to the military offensive by the Palestinian group Hamas on Israeli territories. Hamas initiated Operation Al-Aqsa Flood, a surprise attack involving rocket launches and infiltrations by land, sea, and air. These actions were a direct response to the storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied East Jerusalem and the increasing violence by Israeli settlers against Palestinians.

In retaliation for these events, the Israeli military launched Operation Swords of Iron, targeting Hamas within the Gaza Strip. This conflict has led to a series of severe consequences, including the cutting off of water and electricity supplies to Gaza, further exacerbating the already challenging living conditions in an area under a crippling siege since 2007. The situation remains fluid and demanding, and Turkey is poised to protect its citizens through comprehensive evacuation plans.
