Shooting Incident Occurs Blocks From Presidential Residence
Two members of the U.S. National Guard were shot in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, according to a post by Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem on X (formerly Twitter). Noem did not provide further details about the incident or the condition of the injured personnel.
Separately, Washington police confirmed a shooting occurred one block from the White House, though they released no additional information. At the time of the incident, former President Donald Trump was in Florida ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday. The U.S. Secret Service did not immediately respond to requests for comment on whether the shooting posed any direct threat to the White House.
Trump Excludes South Africa From 2026 G20 Summit Over Human Rights Concerns
In a separate development, former President Donald Trump announced Wednesday that South Africa would not be invited to the 2026 G20 Summit, set to take place in Miami, Florida. Trump cited human rights abuses against white South Africans, particularly the Afrikaner community, as the reason for the exclusion.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated:
“At my direction, South Africa will NOT be receiving an invitation to the 2026 G20, which will be hosted in the Great City of Miami, Florida next year.”
He further referenced “the horrific Human Right Abuses endured by Afrikaners, and other descendants of Dutch, French, and German settlers.”
The decision has drawn mixed reactions, with some critics accusing Trump of politicizing the G20 platform, while others argue that human rights violations should be addressed on the global stage. South Africa has not yet issued an official response.
